The Department of Defense has awarded Lockheed Martin (LMT) a $35.3 billion contract to dramatically scale up production of THAAD — Terminal High Altitude Area Defense — interceptor missiles. The deal calls for roughly quadrupling current output, a production ramp that will stress-test Lockheed's supply chain and pull in a wide range of component makers.
The timing is not accidental. Congress is advancing a $1.1 trillion FY2027 defense spending bill, and the White House has separately asked Congress for $87.6 billion to replenish Pentagon stocks after U.S. military operations against Iran. Missile defense sits at the top of that replenishment list.
